Coalition Partners in Zimbabwe Differ over Mediation

Zimbabwean Prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s call for external intervention in resolving a deadlock in the country’s ruling coalition has come under criticism from President Robert Mugabe’s ZANU-PF party. ZANU-PF has dismissed Tsvangirai’s mediation appeal to the African Union and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) as “premature”, saying the issues under contention between the principals within the unity government had not yet reached a stage where there is a need for arbitration.
