The Enemy Within

In a chilling display of cruelty, recklessness, and embarrassing defiance, Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America, stands out as a leader who repeatedly inflicts unimaginable damage on the United States, leaving the country in perpetual shock and despair.

When citizens and global observers believe they have weathered the worst of his tyranny—watching as he manipulates the nation’s trust and undermines the efforts of progressives and the values the United States stands for, all while maintaining a facade of charisma and support—he escalates his recklessness to new depths.

From shocking statements to ruthless public humiliation that shatters the last remnants of the people’s unity and coexistence, each of his unrefined actions not only highlights his profound lack of empathy but also leaves the global community grappling with a haunting realization: no matter how low they may think he can stoop, he seems to possess an inexhaustible well of malevolence, ready to unleash further devastation at any moment, leaving scars that are both deep and lasting.

Recently, he shattered his own records of heartlessness and vindictive spirit when, during a political rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, he made a controversial statement that suggests an open invitation to Iran to attack the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego in California. ‘Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay’, he carelessly, shamelessly, and unintelligently posited.

It was no coincidence that the two cities he mentioned are both run by Democrats, and no coincidence that he lost California in the 2024 presidential election. For a sitting president to make a statement that suggests a death wish for, and destruction of, cities and states run by the opposition is nothing short of demonic and vindictive.

In my opinion, this action constitutes an act of treason. Some legal analysts and political observers have, in different fora, referred to the statement as a psychopathic speech worrisome enough to invoke the 25th Amendment.

The Mayors of Los Angeles and San Diego, as well as the Governor of California, have all reacted swiftly to the President’s vindictive statement. Todd Gloria, the Mayor of San Diego, posited that ‘San Diego is not collateral damage. We are not expendable. And we are never a small price to pay.’ In her own reaction, Karen Bass, the Mayor of Los Angeles, reminded Trump that ‘The role of a president is to protect the country, not to actively threaten it and encourage attacks on American cities.’

In part, Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California, opined that the action of the President is ‘deranged and dangerous.’ He also added that the President’s action of ‘putting a target on two of our biggest cities and one of America’s largest naval hubs’ is most likely treasonous.

Furthermore, Newsom directed the State Threat Assessment Center to evaluate the situation and watch to see if any of the nation’s foreign adversaries hop on the President’s insensitive and careless statement as an invitation to target California.

Over the years, the President has continued to double down on actions that are consistent with being vindictive. From revoking the security clearances of political opponents and unfairly targeting investigators/prosecutors who legally investigated him previously. His campaign of retribution fueled by vengeance and personal vendettas, according to a special report by Reuters, has targeted, at least, 470 people.

The special report highlights a plethora of vindictive actions by the President – Wielding executive power to punish perceived political enemies, firing prosecutors who investigated his attempt to overturn the 2020 election, ordering punishments of journalists perceived to be unfair to him, penalizing law firms linked to opponents, making life unbearable for civil servants who frown at his policies, and ousting military leaders who are considered ‘woke,’ and withholding research grants from universities that embraced diversity initiatives.

It is also imperative to note that the Pope was not spared in the vengeance and retribution spree of Trump. When Pope Leo openly criticized Trump’s Iran war, the President swung into action, canceling an $11 million contract with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Miami, a humanitarian initiative that supports children arriving in the United States without parents or legal guardians.

The country has witnessed the detrimental effects of the President’s reckless attitude, which has not only jeopardized the people's collective morale but also stripped the nation of the beacon-of-hope status it once held in the comity of nations.

Trump’s impulsive decisions and disregard for the well-being of the people have fostered a climate of uncertainty and fear, leading many to feel hopeless, disillusioned, and abandoned. As a result, the vibrant spirit of the country is fading, leaving citizens questioning their future and the very ideals the United States of America once stood for.

Regardless of political affiliation - Democrat, Republican, or Independent - the principles of unity and mutual respect must be upheld to protect the nation's sovereignty. It is not acceptable for anyone, let alone a supposed President, to suggest or imply an invitation for a foreign country to attack a federating unit that is statutorily an integral part of a nation he presides over. Such statements, aside undermining our coexistence, should attract dire consequences.

Despite our political differences, it remains vital to acknowledge that, historically in the United States, people have always respected and accommodated one another in love, fostering understanding rather than the division this administration has perpetuated since its inception. Trump needs to be educated on the need to sustain the legacies of empathy, love, and mutual respect as we navigate our differing views.
